ABOUT

Not all University of Rochester students have access to private transportation like personal cars, or have money to afford expensive services such as Uber.

URIDE was founded in 2021 with a single mission: to connect U of R students with cars and without cars to provide a much easier carpool option to travel around in Rochester.

We decided to design a digital solution, URIDE, for students making it more convenient despite students' tight academic schedule. Beside the issues of transportation, we hope our app can bring students together by chatting, inviting, and joining social events together outside the campus to build new relationships within our community of U of R.

BUDGET

$1500

Production Costs

Our non-profit carpool service is intended to be developed and run by students. Each student will receive a 500 dollars compensation for their contribution and help. The design will have one student in charge of the logos, layouts and other necessary components for the website and the app. The developing team will have two students in charge of programming and ensure the app is functioning.

$500

Marketing

The marketing costs include a 300 dollars compensation for the student responsible and a 200 dollars budget for any potential promotional activity- printing out flyers, social media advertisement, and running events.

$200 per Month

Maintenance

One student will need to be hired to proofread the comments and feedback for the red-flag system, and since the working hours are irregular, the student will be paid 100 dollar a month for the position. The other 100 dollars is designated to app and website maintenance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT FROM UBER AND LYFT?

Unlike Uber and Lyft, we are not a ride sharing app, we are a carpooling app.  We cannot guarantee that a car will be there for you to get you from point A to point B, but when a ride is available it will be more affordable and safer.

HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?

Payment is not done through the app; it happens between the driver and rider.  The app allows for riders and drivers to share what payment methods work for them and to communicate with each other.  We also offer a suggested price, which is just above gas price.  This is not a required price: the driver can charge more or less.

WE DON'T GURANTEE RIDES?

No, we don't.  We aren't able to guarantee that someone will want to go to New York City during finals week.  Our goal is not to get every single user to every location that they need to go.  Our goal is to be the first choice above the ride sharing apps, and to connect users to each other.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT I AM SAFE?

Our app requires users to register with a current U of R email, to ensure that only students can use it.  The app also has a red flag system to report drivers or riders that make you feel unsafe. The user will be unable to message the reporter and suspended from the app until the case has been reviewed.  Permanent bans will be given on a case-by-case basis.
